03 / Website use cases

Where to use scientific notation converter

Students, teachers and anyone reading scientific data often need to turn 0.000123 into 1.23 × 10⁻⁴ or back again, but many calculators show binary rounding noise or only one direction. Scientific notation converter runs on your own page: visitors type a number in decimal, E or × 10ⁿ form and see every form at once, rounded to a chosen number of significant figures if they wish. The digits are handled exactly, and nothing is sent anywhere.

08 / Common setup problems

Troubleshoot scientific notation converter

Check these settings if the published page behaves differently from the editor.

Why does 12300 have 3 significant figures?

Trailing zeros of a whole number are not counted. Write 1.2300e4 to keep five.

Why is 1.50 shown with the zero?

Trailing zeros after a decimal point are significant, so they are kept.

How do I type × 10?

Write x10^, *10^ or E, for example 4.5x10^-4 or 4.5e-4.

Why is the number refused?

Numbers are limited to 100 significant digits and an exponent from −1000 to 1000.
