Child page lists from a real page tree

These are the actual published outputs of the widget on a sample parent page with three public children, a draft and a protected page: the default list, inline pills with icons, a limited list, a parent with no children and empty text, and the same with the text cleared.

02 / Inside WordPress

Child page directory controls in Elementor

Content › Source uses the current page or a selected parent page from a picker. Behaviour sets the maximum number of pages and the text when there are none. Display sets an optional heading or screen-reader label, a list or inline layout, a label for untitled pages and an optional icon. The Style tab covers alignment, spacing, typography, link Normal, Hover and Focus colours and underline, border, padding, radius, heading style and icon size, spacing, position and colour.

03 / Website use cases

Where to use child page directory

Section landing pages need links to their sub-pages, and hand-made link lists go stale whenever a page is added, renamed or unpublished. Child page directory lists the current page's published child pages automatically, in the menu order you set in WordPress, and leaves out drafts and password-protected pages.

01

Section landing pages

Show all pages in a section, such as Services or Guides, without maintaining links.

02

Documentation hubs

List topic pages under a chapter page in the order you choose.

03

Page templates

Use one template for every parent page; each lists its own children.

WordPress menus

A menu lists exactly the links you add and must be updated by hand. This widget follows the page tree automatically.

Elementor Pro Loop Grid

Elementor Pro's Loop Grid can query pages with a custom template. This widget is a quick, lightweight list of direct child pages without building a loop item.

08 / Common setup problems

Troubleshoot child page directory

Check these settings if the published page behaves differently from the editor.

Why is a child page missing?

Only published, public pages without a password are listed, and only direct children. Check the page's status and Parent setting.

How do I change the order?

Set Order in each child page's Page Attributes. Pages with the same order are listed by ID.

Why does it show grandchild pages?

It does not. Only immediate children are listed. Add another widget on the child page for the next level.

Why is nothing shown?

The page has no public children and the empty text is blank, or the parent is not a published page. The editor shows a hint.

09 / Frequently asked questions
